The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a unit of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) under the Department of Space, Government of India, stands as a premier training and educational institution. Established to develop skilled professionals in the fields of Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, and GNSS Technology for Natural Resources, Environmental, and Disaster Management, IIRS has a rich history. Originally founded as the Indian Photo-interpretation Institute (IPI) in 1966, it was the first in Southeast Asia.
Over the years, IIRS has expanded its capabilities, offering a wide range of training and educational programs tailored to meet the needs of various target groups, from fresh graduates to policymakers and academia. These programs include short-duration customized courses, a PG Diploma, and Master’s Degrees (M.Tech and M.Sc.) in various disciplines. IIRS also conducts distance-learning programs through its Outreach Activity.
IIRS Outreach Programme
The IIRS Outreach Programme is focused on strengthening academia and user segments in Space Technology and its Applications through online learning platforms. Launched in 2007 with participation from twelve universities across India, the program has grown significantly. To date, IIRS has successfully conducted 101 programs through live and interactive classrooms (also known as the EDUSAT program) and has launched five online courses under its e-learning initiative.

Eligibility Criteria
The course is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students (from any year), as well as technical or scientific staff from the Central or State Government, faculty, and researchers at universities or institutions.
Course Fee
The course is offered free of charge.
Registration and Certification
Participants must register through designated nodal centers, with approval from the nodal center coordinators. Registration can be completed and tracked through the following URL: IIRS Registration.
Approved participants will receive login credentials for the ISRO E-CLASS platform. The course will be conducted online, with daily live sessions scheduled from 1600 to 1730 IST. Attendance and participation guidelines must be strictly followed.
Participants with at least 70% attendance will be eligible for an online examination. A minimum score of 40% is required to receive a “Course Completion” certificate, which will be distributed through the respective nodal center coordinators.
Programme Reception
The course can be accessed live via the ISRO E-CLASS platform or the IIRS YouTube channel. No specific hardware or software is required, and session content will be available offline 24 hours after the live session.
